My Memories of Loughborough College
1948 to 1951

Every handicraft student made his own box to keep his tools in. They can be seen under the benches in the picture of the woodwork room below. Mine, "beaten up", came with me to Canada in 1957 on the SS Empress of England of the Canadian Pacific Line.

Much abused trunk under my bed at Hazlerigg Hall. The trunk
was abused, not the bed, if my memory serves me.

What with balls and rags,
I didn't have much time for studying.

I play the BBflat bass on the left
but I have no idea what the Atom War was
Going down meant end of term. We invited bus loads of
girls from surrounding colleges to our dances in the
Victory Hall. After midnight there were scenes of wild
abandon all over the sports field. After being warned by
Dr.Schofield that such scenes of debauchery were to stop
I recruited a local searchlight detachment to sweep the
fields at midnight. The scene got an X rating but they were
all at it again the next Saturday night.

We were the "Idle Rich" in the Rag Parade
Skit night at Hazlerigg Hall.
I still had my navy uniform and I was able to get into it.
I am in the picture but cannot I remember the occasion
As MC at numerous events I was good on my feet in front of
an audience which led to the time when I made a fool of
myself at the installation of a new College President.
I lead into the Victory Hall a motley band with
Frank (Benny) Goodman on clarinet
We take over the installation of General Hasted as new
president. Diplomas henceforth will be printed on toilet
paper to give them some value to society.
We lead the General outside where more "fun" awaits him.
For some inexplicable reason the royal coach collapses

their campus gates together and dyed the lake yellow.
