From the confessional.
Your items on the school rules brought it all back to me. I must have
written them out between 40 and 50 times. Only four of these were as a
punishment - the rest were due to copies being quite saleable, particularly
where the punishment had been given by a prefect who would be unfamiliar
with the handwriting of the individual concerned. It was just one of the
little scams prevailing during the mid 50's, along with sale of free bus
tickets and card fixing (removal of entries using ink eradicator followed
by re-sizing of the deleted area to restore the card surface - for a small
fee of course). Happy days - small wonder we have the Enrons and Worldcoms.
One of Seaborne's rants at assembly often comes to mind at times like
this -"If there's one thing worse than a lout it's an intelligent,
educated lout". I suppose the same goes for criminals. Happily my
own little foray into dubious dealings did not result in a life of crime
as I ended up in the rather the more mundane field of metallurgy.
